Pennsylvania State Graduation Pathways
Beginning with the Graduating Class of 2023
Pathway #1: Scoring proficient or advanced on each Keystone Exam – Algebra 1, Biology and Literature.
Pathway #2: Earn a satisfactory Composite Score on the Algebra 1, Biology and Literature Keystone Exams. To meet the composite score requirement students must:
- Score proficient on at least 1 exam AND score basic on the remaining exam(s) with an overall score of at least 4,452
Pathway #3: After a minimum of one unsuccessful attempt on each of the Keystone Exams AND earning a passing grade in the courses associated with each Keystone Exam (Algebra 1, Biology, 10th Grade Literature or concurrent course), students can meet graduation pathway #3 through completion of the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) or the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) assessment in an approved Career and Technical Education concentration with a written and performance score of ‘Competent’ or ‘Advanced’.
Pathway #4: After a minimum of one unsuccessful attempt on each of the Keystone Exams AND earning a passing grade in the courses associated with each Keystone Exam (Algebra 1, Biology and 10th Grade Literature or concurrent course), students can meet graduation pathway #4 through completion of one of the following alternate assessments earning the minimum required score: ASVAB, PSAT, and/or SAT.
Pathway #5: After a minimum of one unsuccessful attempt on each of the Keystone Exams AND earning a passing grade in the courses associated with each Keystone Exam (Algebra 1, Biology and 10th Grade Literature or concurrent course), students can meet graduation pathway #5 by demonstrating readiness for postsecondary engagement through three pieces of evidence from the student’s career portfolio aligned to student goals and career plan.
